Jet Jewellery

Jet is a black organic gemstone formed from fossilised wood , usually from ancient conifers called Araucaria. As the trees aged, died and collapsed they were slowly covered by layers of sediments , which created conditions of heat and pressure thus transforming the wood to Jet.   This occurred during the Jurassic and Creataceous geological periods,  upto 200 million years ago .Jet is a light weight and warm material and is oftern fossiliferous.

The ancient Greeks belived that wearing Jet would bring favours from the gods. 

Jet was greatly popularised by Queen Victoria.
