Turquoise is an hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminium. Turquoise is formed when copper rich solutions percolate into pre-existing rocks. The water content evaporates, the copper combines with aluminium and phosphorous to form Turquoise. Often a patchwork of the original host rock remains within the Turquoise, providing a uniqueness to each stone. It was believed that the blue and brown within the gemstone symbolised the unity of the earth and sky. 

The Turks, after whom the stone is named, attached Turquoise to their horses bridles for protection. The Native Americans believed the stone to be 'the breath of life', symbolising the sky and reminding humans of their spirituality. When worn it strengthens the entire anatomy, brings wisdom and attract friendship. It brings happiness and luck, especially when given as a gift.
