Moonstone is an Orthoclase Feldspar formed from cooling magmas causing thin layers of the minerals Albite and Orthoclase to form . These minerals have different reflective indexes so light entering the stone is scattered in many directions creating the changes in hue known as adularescence and beautiful lines and patterns within the gemstone. 

It is regarded by many cultures as the stone of femininity and is the birthstone for Cancerians and Gemini.  It may improve intuition and creativity ,providing a calming effect.
