 Moonstone is an Orthoclase Feldspar formed from cooling magmas  deep within the Earth. The magmas cooled at differing speeds creating thin layers of the minerals Albite and Orthoclase. These minerals have different reflective indexes so light entering the stone is scattered  and diffused creating the beautiful changes in colour known as adularescence and unique lines and patterns within the gemstone.

Hindu and Roman myths suggested that moonbeams were captured and frozen in Moonstones, hence its magical appearance. It was worn as an amulet by ancient travellers .
