Oganjo Lapis Lazuli silver pendant and Chain
Two unusual Lapis Lazuli Gemstones set in silver . The oblong gemstone appears to have a series of tiny stars marching in a line in the left corner. These are tiny flecks of iron pyrites adding to the uniqueness of the gemstone. The other gemstone also has flecks of golden iron pyrites.
Lapis Lazuli, a dark blue gemstone, is a complex mixture of the minerals Lazurite, Calcite and Pyrite. The best quality being a deep intense blue with tiny specks of iron pyrites which is a golden brassy colour. These inclusions add to the uniqueness of each gemstone. It was formed as the result of contact metamorphism.
Lapis Lazuli was revered for its beautiful deep celestial blue colour by many ancient cultures and was used to create ultramarine colour fabric dye favoured by royalty. In Tibetan culture Lapis Lazuli was prized more than diamonds as it is associated with spiritual attainment, wisdom and truth .
