Green Amethyst is also known as Prasiolite. It is a pale green variety of silicon dioxide and is usually facetted into shimmering gemstones. 

It is formed when purple Amethyst found within rock structures is super heated by nearby lavas or igneous intrusions. If there is iron contant in the Ametyst crystals they will turn into a delicate pale green colour. 

Prasiolite was originally discovered in southern Poland in the 19th century so it is a relatively new gemstone. Larger quantities are now mined in Brazil.
