The birthstone for January and Capricorns, born between 22nd December and 20th January, is Garnet – a gorgeously deep red stone said to promote self-confidence and aid depression. Ancient folklore believed it could assist lovers with sexual drive and passion, and also used to be exchanged between parting friends to symbolise that their bonds would be reunited. Garnet can come in other forms of orange and green as it is made from magnesium and iron and mostly mined in South Africa, Brazil and Arizona.
